Research/Training opportunities for students

Student training activities at NIMR:

In order to achieve research goals of different projects being undertaken by scientists, ICMR-NIMR supports the active involvement of highly motivated young and aspiring minds of the country to train them at the early stages of their careers (both at masters and doctoral levels). Accordingly, two levels of training programs for students are undertaken at ICMR-NIMR:

• Doctoral training leading to a Ph.D.degree..ICMR-NIMR is recognized, through an agreement, as an Affiliate Centre of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR, http://acsir.res.in/), an Institute of National Importance (INI) through an Act of the Parliament, the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Act, 2011, . The Degrees will be awarded by AcSIR.
• Training for 3-6 months dissertation/summer training, for fulfilling the master’s degree of a recognized Indian university.

General Eligibility and Selection Procedure

Interested candidates should have a qualified master's degree in any branch of life sciences and cleared the NET (JRF) examination conducted by CSIR-UGC/ICMR/DBT. Course Fee, Laboratory & Other Facilities

There is no course fee that will be collected by the Institute for the Ph.D.Program. However, fees to be levied by the concerned University where the candidate will be registered for Ph.D. degree, therefore, Ph.D. registration/course fees are to be borne by the candidate. The selected students will be allocated to a scientist and be permitted to use the laboratory and other facilities for research work needed for the fulfillment of the Program. They are bound by rules and regulations as in place at ICMR-NIMR from time to time.

General Guidelines

At present, there is no housing facility at ICMR-NIMR to host the students. Selected students have to make their own arrangements for accommodation. No TA/DA will be paid to the short-listed candidates for attending personal discussions at ICMR-NIMR. Ph.D. students with NET (JRF) qualification will be allowed to receive fellowships, house rent allowances and contingent grants as per rules and regulations of the funding agencies.

Dissertation/Summer Training for Master’s Degree

General Eligibility and Selection Procedure

Students enrolled in different Master’s degree programs at any recognized University can apply. Students seeking placement at ICMR-NIMR for fulfilling their master’s thesis may write an application to the Director, NIMR with full bio-data and a recommendation from the Principal/Head of the Department/University. Subject to the availability of position in each laboratory, eligible candidates after initial screening and personal discussion at ICMR-NIMR, New Delhi, position will be offered. The last date of application for six-month training is 30th November of every year. The session will start from the beginning of 01 January of every year. For summer training, the last date of application is 30th March of every year, and the session will start from the beginning of 01 May of every year. Please send applications to: phd.nimr@gmail.com

Please note that applications for any of these two programs sent by hard copies or by emails to individual scientists/Director will not be considered.

Course Fee, Laboratory & Other Facilities

A one-time course fee of Rs.10,000.00 (for six months training) and Rs.5,000.00 (for three months) in the form of a Demand Draft favoring “Director NIMR” payable at ‘New Delhi’ is to be paid after receiving the permission letter for induction into the program. Prior to joining, the candidate will have to submit a filled-in “Intellectual Rights Form” (available to the selected students along with the permission letter) duly signed by the principal/ head of the concerned department of the college/university where the candidate is undergoing the master’s Program.
